Luyckx supplies four Hitachi EX1200-7 machines for Jan De Nul’s innovative offshore vessel
Thursday, April 16, 2026Luyckx is proud to enter the offshore sector. We are working with great enthusiasm on a new and unique project for Jan De Nul. They are investing in a new vessel, named George W. Goethals, designed to protect cables on the seabed and install erosion protection for wind turbine foundations. We were commissioned to supply 4 Hitachi EX1200-7 SLFs for the vessel.
The vessel has a capacity of 37,000 tonnes. Thanks to smart vertical and lateral drop chutes, the vessel can precisely place extra-large boulders to a depth of up to 400 metres.
Our machines play a key role in this:
- Two machines on the side of the vessel load the boulders in the harbour.
- Two centre machines distribute the load evenly and ensure controlled dumping onto the seabed as soon as we set course.
In addition, we are converting these machines to fully electric propulsion, an important step towards more sustainable offshore operations. We are also integrating our own, in-house developed collision prevention system, ensuring maximum safety and precision on board, even in the most challenging conditions at sea.
This is a milestone in the history of our family business. We are proud to enter a new segment: the offshore sector. We are challenged to achieve new levels of innovation, international collaboration and technical excellence.
