Starfish ZX890LCH-7 deployed at THOR wind farm in Denmark
Thursday, August 28, 2025In May, two new Hitachi Starfish Generation 3 excavators were successfully deployed on the THOR wind farm project in Denmark. Their task: to bury two 275 kV HVAC cables, a crucial step in the construction of the energy infrastructure.
Prior to laying the cables, the excavators cleared the entire cable route of obstacles such as fishing nets and ship ropes.
The JDN offshore vessel CONNECTOR brought the cables from the wind turbines at sea to a depth of approximately 8 metres. From that point, the Starfish machines took over: they dug the cables further inland and assisted in pulling the cables towards the transformer park in LEMUIG, where the connection to the substation takes place.
The Starfish Generation 3 machines are proving in the field that thinking along with the customer pays off.
