Scoop: Mols Contractors from Arendonk brings first mobile wind turbine to Belgian construction sector
Thursday, October 23, 2025Mols Contractors is a family business based in Arendonk that has specialised in mobility and infrastructure since 1897. They provide sustainable and innovative solutions to public and private clients. Thursday 2 October brought them a great first: a mobile wind turbine in the construction sector.
It is a wind turbine from Plenty energy cooperative and supplies green, locally generated electricity for Mols Contractors' construction site activities. Such wind turbines were already being used at festivals and large beach bars, but now they are also making their debut in the construction sector.
Wind energy
‘We want to improve the image of wind energy in Belgium,’ says Pieterjan Verhaeghen, co-founder of Plenty. ‘Wind turbines are often the subject of debate, but they are crucial for a sustainable future. If we really want to switch to green energy by 2030, we must dare to embrace wind. With this collaboration, we are bringing our technology to a construction site for the first time.’
For Mols Contractors, the mobile wind turbine fits in seamlessly with their broader sustainability policy: ‘The construction sector is responsible for a significant proportion of CO₂ emissions,’ says David Mols, director at Mols. ‘By using a mobile wind turbine on our site, we are investing in making our mission a reality. There is enough sun, wind and water to generate green electricity locally. Doing this directly on site is truly innovative.’
Green energy for everyone
For Plenty, this project is a new milestone in their mission to make renewable energy more accessible to everyone: from festival-goers to construction professionals. ‘The mobile wind turbine is not only a source of energy, but also an ambassador for our broader mission,’ says Pieterjan. ‘We want to accelerate the energy transition by actively involving citizens. Through Plenty, people can invest in solar, wind and water projects, and thus become co-owners of the electricity they use.’
