Hitachi Research and development drives progress at Hitachi Construction Machinery

Wednesday, August 13, 2025

In a rapidly transforming world, where sustainability, digitalization, and efficiency are becoming essential, Hitachi Construction Machinery (HCM) is responding with innovation. In 2024, the Japanese giant increased its investment in research and development to 2.7% of its revenue, or €219.6 million, demonstrating a firm commitment to shaping the future of construction.

LANDCROS: A Vision, A Course, A Revolution

Faced with a rapidly changing industry, HCM launched a strategic concept called LANDCROS in 2024. Much more than a simple project, LANDCROS embodies a philosophy: that of a manufacturer that no longer simply produces machines, but establishes itself as a provider of global solutions.

LANDCROS is part of a profound reflection on the transformations taking place in the sector: the shift from ownership to use, increased environmental awareness, the need for connectivity and performance optimization throughout the equipment lifecycle. This initiative marks a decisive turning point in how HCM intends to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

A Future Unveiled at Bauma: LANDCROS One, the Machine of Tomorrow

At Bauma 2025, a key industry event, HCM unveiled the fruit of this vision: LANDCROS One, a futuristic excavator concept developed in partnership with the Granstudio design studio.

Combining innovative aesthetics, advanced technologies, and eco-design, LANDCROS One perfectly illustrates Hitachi's commitment to offering smarter, safer, and more sustainable machines. It is not just a technical feat, but an industrial manifesto.

“LANDCROS One is more than a machine,” says Francesco Quaranta, President and CEO of Hitachi Construction Machinery Europe. “It's our commitment to delivering solutions that go beyond simple hardware. We want to redefine the rules of the game in our industry, giving the next generation the tools to build a better world.”

Innovation Driven by Commitment

The increase in R&D investments reflects Hitachi Construction Machinery's ambition to remain at the forefront of progress in an increasingly demanding environment. With a return to 2021 investment levels (2.5%), HCM is making innovation a strategic pillar, a concrete response to the evolving needs of modern construction sites.

Hitachi doesn't just build machines. It builds the future.
