Eiffage chooses Hitachi EX1200-7 excavators with Sunton Ripper on construction of EPR2 reactors in Penly

EDF (Electricité de France) has awarded Eiffage the contract to build the first two new EPR2 nuclear reactors at Penly, on the Normandy coast in France.

For this large-scale project, Eiffage has ordered two Hitachi EX1200-7 excavators, each equipped with a Sunton stripper weighing 48 tonnes.

Together with a new CAT D11 dozer and CAT D8 dozer, the two Hitachi-Sunton combinations will be used to rip and transport as much as 2.5 million cubic metres of rock formations to a stock yard.

Both machines will play a crucial role in meeting the strict deadlines for excavating this huge amount of rock.
